see blog for new news.
See prior blog entries for June 2010 (and before) for exciting news about the new single 'No Tea for Me (the anti-tea party song)' as well as more gigs with Saboteur Tiger, and don't forget the still-fairly-new album 'Ship of State' is out there!
Happy early summer 2010!
The new single "No Tea For Me" is now on iTunes, & other places- see blog for more!
My new topical (and rather political) single "No Tea For Me (the anti-tea party song) is now not only availabe for download at CD Baby
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mikeskliar but also at iTunes! The iTunes link is
http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/no-tea-for-me-the-anti-tea/id376170476The song has been called a "rockin' summary of the last eight years of the American Political scene, a musical Huffington Post, and a great way to score some points against the 'tea party' here in the US, which seems to be the party of 'forget everthing that happened before Obama". Writing, playing and recording the song has been great fun, and I want to thank Paul "Hoopshank" Turrell for drumming on the track, and Tom R. for production assistance.
If you haven't heard the song, go to one of the above links, do all that computer clicking stuff, and grab it! (and if you like, spread the word!)
Also in new music news here, I'm continuing to sit in on electric guitar with the blues and oldies cover band Saboteur Tiger , and we're playing a gig on Friday June 18th, 2010 at the upper west side manhattan bar P & G, located at 78th St and Columbus Ave., NY NY , between 8 and 10 PM. Hope to see some of you there!
And finally, I just wrote and recorded another topical song, this one about the recent oil spill, and energy, generally. It's called "Oil Addiction" -- so far not yet commercially available, but contact me for details if you're interested... and thanks for listening, stay tuned for more news!
New single release "No Tea For Me"& other news (see blog).
There's a brand new Mike Skliar CD single song just released, called "No Tea For Me (the anti-tea party song)". It's a topical political song inspired by recent events here in the United States, with the Tea Party getting alot of media attention. Your mileage may vary, but to my mind, the Tea Party is misguided, wrong, and too often, just plain hateful. This song was originally written and played on WBAI-FM's "Monthly Laughing Nightmare" show, and is now available in a new remixed version, featuring the fantastic drumming work of Paul "Hoopshank" Turrell in addition to my own guitar, bass, harmonica and vocal work.
The song is available for download only from the wonderful folks at CD Baby, at
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mikeskliarIt will soon (by mid-late June 2010 ) be available as well at iTunes, and other places as well.
In other music news, I'm continuing to play guitar with the five piece blues-oldies band Saboteur Tiger. Upcoming Saboteur Tiger shows include June 6 at the Greenwich Village Bistro, June 18 at P & G Bar, and back at the Bistro on (tentatively) July 11th and Aug 1st. (All of these are in Manhattan, NYC).
Spring 2010 news...
Tuesday, April 13, 2010
Here's the latest Spring 2010 Mike Skliar music news..(see blog)
I'm still playing electric lead & rhythm guitar in this tremendously fun blues/oldies (mostly) cover band, Saboteur Tiger. We're playing between once and twice a month, usually at a cool little downtown manhattan west village bar/restaurant called the Greenwich Village Bistro at 13 Carmine St. Our next gig there is May 23rd, 2010, and we may play there June 6th as well (not confirmed yet). We're also playing in the upper west side of manhattan at the P & G bar on June 18th. It's a five piece band, with drums/percussion, bass, harmonica, guitar (which is me) and lead singer (which is not me, tho I sing a song or two most sets- sometimes my originals, and sometimes various covers. ) Saboteur Tiger's main reportoire (other then my occasional originals) is drawn from a wide variety of sources, - lots of great songs new and old that have been great fun to play.. and the folks down to see us have had fun too...
My own songwriting and recording continues. I've also been contributing 2-3 songs every month to WBAI-FM's 'Monthly Laughing Nightmare/Christmas Coup Comedy Players' show. These are usually topical political songs, not my main thing, but something that's fun to do.
I wrote a whole mess of songs as part of February Album Writing Month (check out
FAWM.org for more details) and I'm very very slowly in the process of thinking about taking the best of those songs, and other songs I've written in the year since my last album "ship of state" (which was released April 2009) and doing another album. This would be my third album.. but don't look for it quite yet. There will probably be more writing and recording to come to make it just as perfect as I can...
Other then that , happy Spring, everyone!
February, which means.....
Wednesday, January 27, 2010
Well it's just about February, which means I'll be doing alot of songwriting. Why? (see blog for answer)
For the past five years now, I've been part of something called February Album Writing Month. It's an international online group of songwriters who each commit to trying to write 14 songs each in the (usually) 28-day month of February. Many of the songwriters record simple demo recordings and post them (or if not, then just lyrics) at the Feb album writing month site, which is
fawm.org It's a great site, a great and supportive songwriting community, and if you're a songwriter who has ever struggled with any kind of 'writers block' its a great way to get past it and just keep writing. I'll be doing it again this year, and we'll see what happens..
Meanwhile, the band in which I play guitar, Saboteur Tiger, is playing another New York City gig on Feb 21st, details to follow...
Have a great February everyone!
new year, new gig..
Thursday, January 7, 2010
I've lately been sitting in on guitar in a blues & oldies band, Saboteur Tiger. We've got another gig this Sat. Jan 9th(continued in blog).
This Saturday, Jan 9, 2010 at the Greenwich Village Bistro in Manhattan at 13 Carmine St (just off 6th ave) we'll be playing two sets from 9 pm to 11 pm. Saboteur Tiger is a fun five piece blues and oldies band, playing mostly all covers, but really fun stuff, and it's been a blast playing with them. Also featured in the band is my musical partner in crime, Ken Ficara on harmonica, along with Don Slovin on percussion, LyndaG on bass and the one and only Gordon Linsner on lead vocals. The Bistro is an intimate place for drink, quite decent food, and a chance to hear some good music. If you're not busy, and in NYC this Sat night, come on down and hear us!
End of year greetings!
Thursday, December 17, 2009
Hello to all, and all the best end-of year greetings to all! Hard to believe that 2010 is upon us.
A few new musical developments which are just over the horizon. More details on all of this will be forthcoming soon, actually. I've collaborated with Errol Elumir on a few new children's songs, which will be featured on his new album "Binary for Babies". More details when they become available. I've never really written kids' songs before, this should be a fun project.
The title track of my 2009 album "Ship of State" will be featured in the next February Album Writing Month official collaborative cd, which should be out soon. Another 13 songs from fellow fawmers will be on there and from what i hear it should be a killer collection! Again, more details to follow.
Other then those two things, things are somewhat quiet with me and music these days. No new gigs scheduled as of now, except a sabateur tiger gig (more on that soon) in early January. Still writing new songs here and there, including at least one song a month featured on WBAI's "CCCP monthly laughing nightmare" show.
The World Tour..so to speak..

The Ship of State is sailing indeed.. Playing a show in London, UK on July 17, and quite possibly Tel Aviv, Israel on Aug 3rd (see blog for more)
Well, it's summertime, and time to visit family and friends in far off places. I'll be in the UK for five days, and while there will be doing a gig in London on July 17th at the White Hart, 1 Mile End Rd., Whitechapel, London. I'll be playing from about 8:15 to 9 pm or so, and will probably be joined by a few fellow songwriters/musicians from the February Album Writing Month community which I've been a part of for a few years.
After London and the UK, I'll be off in Israel for a few weeks. Tentatively playing this bar called the Bloombar at King George 2, Tel Aviv on Monday night, Aug 3rd, starting at around 10 pm along with singer songwriter Arnon Zack.
New album, even newer song and video..
Saturday, May 30, 2009
The new album "Ship of State" is available on cd baby, as well as iTunes, Cd universe, and other outlets. An even newer topical song I just wrote has now been posted on youtube.
The new 20-song album "Ship of State" is now available not just at cd baby, but also at itunes and Cd Universe and many other places, including amazon. It's an exciting release and I've gotten great comments from the people who have heard it!
After the cd was recorded and released, I wrote and recorded a topical song called "Here come the grooms, here come the brides" It's about marriage equality, and this interesting situation we have here in the USA now- there is marriage equality in much of the new england states (mass., conn, rhode island, etc) and even in Iowa, but not in either California or New York. That may change in New York state tho, as the state legislature is voting this month and it's going to be a close vote.
So in honor of that issue, I wrote this song- the youtube clip is
here.
